II’m surprised but not surprised by the lack of media attention given to Blowie. It’s a neo-slasher film with a VERY unique hook – as in, literally each the actor in the film is a legitimate, authentic and real actor adult movie star. Despite being a film about sex workers – with gay content creators representing virtually every character in the film, minus our only female starlet/director character – Blowie didn’t receive much publicity during Pride Month. I don’t think any a mainstream horror site reviewed it, which is reason enough to Wicked horror to put him in the spotlight.
You already have know whether or not Blowie is the kind of film you need. I mean, the name alone is going to alienate a lot of audiences, and that’s probably a good thing. Blowie is obviously a film made for adults and adults who are not homophobic and who are not afraid of a little twist. I don’t even do it to have say “viewer discretion advised”, because Blowie shout this from a megaphone in the first minute of the film.
Blowie is the work of directors Ed Aldridge, Sam Lidbetter and altSHIFT (which I’m sure is their real birth name, as is Rob Zombie.) The cast includes only half a dozen actors and virtually the entire film takes place in the same location – although It is a fairly spacious mansion in the British countryside. This is obviously a very low budget production but the cinematography looks terrific. It’s a very brilliant film and the editing is excellent. It seems path more expensive than it is and it looks like a professional quality production. Visually and aesthetically, Blowie it’s something impressive.
The story is classic 1980s slasher hokum. The film begins with a long prologue which explains how one of the “visitors” to the mansion succumbed to a tragic lubricant accident (looooong story), the rest of the cast swearing to hide the death to save their own skins. It’s a pattern straight out of The fire And The House on Sorority Rowonly all the conspirators are people who have Only fans for real. Which naturally leads us to question I’m sure you’re all wondering this.
I don’t know whether the sex scenes in this film are simulated or the real deal. I have a bit of the impression that most debauchery is staged, but given the cast, I really wouldn’t be surprised if we had real the chaos between men in this film. That said, the content is not that extreme, which really surprised me. Yes we have men And female frontal nudity and we have some… niche… activities that take place throughout the film. But Blowie is obviously anything but a real porn film, let alone a hardcore film. It’s a classic slasher movie, only with a lot of hot, buff guys kissing and sometimes picking on each other because some pervert on the internet paid them a few hundred dollars to do it. There is nothing here obviously more explicit than anything you see in something like the 2009 My fucking Valentine remake, but if loving sweaty men isn’t your thing, rest assured, this film has a lot.
As the only woman in the film, Kali Sudhra obviously stands out. She plays the proverbial a bit tie that binds in the film and manages to deliver that of the film Really poignant social commentary in a scene where she talks about the legal persecution of sex workers online. You keep thinking she’s going to be something It looks a bit like a traditional finale girl, but you should expect a movie called Blowie to always subvert your expectations.
The rest of the cast seems surprisingly one-dimensional. Sure, there’s a bit of a personality clash between the roommates, but their dialogue is largely interchangeable and it’s recognized early on that they’re all there to be cannon fodder and nothing else. There is a teased plot twist two thirds of the way through the film which seems as Blowie may be transitioning from a slasher film into a different type of horror subgenre, but I won’t spoil it for those of you who haven’t seen it yet. With or without that teased However, a twist occurs, Blowie is definitely an old-school slasher mystery through and through, if not thematically, then spiritually.
I’m not going to lie and say I wasn’t somewhat disappointed by the grand finale of Blowie. This is a movie that seems to have a VERY obvious killer and while we have a few red herrings to throw us off track, the big “reveal” is pretty much a foregone conclusion. There is a few twists and turns along the way, but once the deadly stuff starts Blowie totally telegraphs its ending.
As for blood and guts, again, Blowie is nowhere near as extreme as I expected. Sure, we get some bloodshed and a gruesome kill or two, but there’s nothing in the movie that would put it anywhere. close to something like Evil Burn in terms of violence per capita. Besides, I’m not even sure that the total quantity of blood spilled is comparable to that Obsession. Anyone who enters Blowie anticipating a jubilee of painting the walls red with extra thick spaghetti sauce is bound to be a disappointment; he has a little moments of horror, but nothing Also over it.
Probably the strangest thing about Blowie that’s what he’s not really trying to do any compelling social points (aside from the aforementioned monologue, of course.) This isn’t really a movie about homophobia, health care, or the right to free speech, nor is it a movie that rushes to condemn online weirdos (who usually hold hypocritical political views about the same people they “flatter”) or people and companies who profit from adult content creators on the Internet. It is literally just another Friday the 13th variation, the main difference being that about five-sixths of its cast are all gay adult film stars. Some people will like it, others will Really I don’t like it. And there’s not much room in the middle for centrist views.
Blowie is by no means a perfect film. There are some problems with the script and the acting is perhaps Also sober and calm most of the time. But that feels different and tries to do something new with a formula that has been killed at this point. Even when the film is not a success, it nevertheless retains a unique an atmosphere and air that you simply don’t see in so many contemporary horror films. Blowie it could be a slasher film with more style than substance; but hey, at least it has a style you will remember for a while.
