New films by Mike Leigh, Pablo Larraín and Hans Peter Molland are among those competing for the Golden Shell Award at this year’s San Sebastian Film Festival.
San Sebastian on Tuesday revealed additions to its 2026 competition selection, including British drama Lee Caring loving tender; Moland Soil growth; And Laren My sad death – A Netflix miniseries that will be released as a single 4-hour film.
Other competition highlights including Milo From director Nicole Garcia (Oran), a French drama starring Marion Cotillard and Lurking Star Théodore Bellerin; and In my father’s roomthe directorial debut of Japanese novelist Maha Harada.
Two of the festival’s previous winners return: Argentine director Benjamin Neystadt, who won the Silver Shell Award for Best Director for his film. Rojo In 2018, Best Screenplay my lady In 2023, the competition will return with Glaxoa drama set in the 1950s based on the novel of the same name by Argentine writer Hernan Roncino and starring Lale Esposito, Marcelo Subuito and Esteban Bigliardi.
Turkish director Yesim Ustaoglu Pandora’s box (2008) won the Golden Shell Award, with heroine Tsila Shelton receiving the Best Actress award, and will present her latest work, What’s left?In San Sebastian this year.
The San Sebastian company has previously announced three Spanish films in the official competition: Bad father By Roberto Bueso; 5 extra minutes By Javier Ruiz Caldera; Saints By Mikel Gurría. Out of competition, San Sebastian shows two Spanish series: Castlewritten and written by Isabel Peña and Eduardo Villanueva, and directed by Elena Martín Jimeno and Sandra Romero. The 74th San Sebastian Festival takes place from September 18 to 26.
