If you don’t know composer Brian Tyler by name, it’s very likely that you know at least some of his music thanks to the catalog of popular sounds he’s created. Among his music portfolio are the soundtracks for Fast and furious privilege, Now you see me films, Super Mario Bros. Movie, Crazy Rich Asians, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: The Dark World, Rambo: Last Blood, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone universe and Formula 1’s first “Official Formula 1 Theme”, which is broadcast during the global broadcast of each race.
Now, media music rights investor and manager Cutting Edge Group (CEG) has acquired the music rights and streaming rights to Tyler’s catalog of blockbuster films and TV series, which includes more than 60,000 minutes.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the company described the acquisition as “one of the largest acquisitions ever made for the rights to a single film and television composer, and includes the soundtracks of some of the most successful entertainment works from the past two decades, including films with global box office grosses of more than $21 billion.”
Cutting Edge says it is focused on “securing the rights to iconic scores for modern film and television.” Its portfolio already consists of more than 400,000 owned and/or managed media music rights valued at more than $1 billion, according to the company.

Tyler was represented in the deal by Dave Kaplan at Surfdog, Sam Schwartz and Michael Gorfaine of the Gorfaine Schwartz Agency, Scott Idle and Mitchell Manger at Loeb & Loeb, and Jan Lee at Citrin Cooperman. CEG was represented in the transaction by Michael Poster and Mehdi Senaki of Michelman Robinson.

Tyler’s accolades include 51 BMI Music Awards, three Emmy Award nominations, five ASCAP Music Awards, a BAFTA nomination and 12 Goldspirit Awards, including Composer of the Year. He was also honored with BMI’s Icon Award in 2022 for his work.
