There are many reasons to restart a franchise. This is often a financial gain. Sometimes it’s a resurgence of nostalgia. But with those of 2026 Horror movieit’s personal.
The Wayans brothers were effectively kicked out of their own franchise after Horror movie 2citing pay disputes with nightmare producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein. Their baby, their comic works, were hijacked by monstrous suits who handed the reins to David Zucker (Plane!, Naked gun, Baseball). It’s been more than two decades since Hollywood stole the Wayans boys, but they’re back now, with a horror satire driven by ghostly Ghostface hijinks and barbed vengeance – armed, locked and ready to roast their enemies.
The main story follows that of 2022 Shoutthe fifth opus of Radio Silence, as a rebootquel (“rebootyquel”). All the familiar faces return to the house: Shorty Meeks (Marlon Wayans) is a stoner streamer, Ray Wilkins (Shawn Wayans) is definitely not gay anymore (like), Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) has entered her reclusive Laurie Strode era, and Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall) cosplays Ma from Octavia Spencer. It’s sweet to see Horror moviethe “Core Four” come together; however, some of their material seems stuck in the past. Ray’s masked homosexuality is little more than a joke, while Faris struggles with Cindy’s Republican transformation and the old jokes that accompany it. Breda’s cool mom antics fare better with Hall’s comedic prowess, while Shorty gets into some golden bits with animated demon hunters and celebrity vloggers.
But you can’t restart without new blood. Olivia Rose Keegan plays Sara, Cindy’s daughter who takes pills and kills “Anna Faris” in Scary movie » impression – and Savannah Lee Nassif plays Tuesday, Jenna Ortega’s brooding replacement. They are not exactly on the level of Faris and Hall, but rely on moderate supporters. Cameron Scott Roberts makes fun of ShoutSara’s golden rule is to never trust the boyfriend while playing Sara’s obviously untrustworthy partner, while the rest of Radio Silence’s young protagonists are mocked with more respect than Kevin Williamson showed his predecessors in Scream 7. They’re a surprisingly fun group, but never match the OGs on their set.
There’s a lot of horror love in it Horror movieincorporating hits like To go out, Final destination: BloodlinesAnd The bottom in a list of references that keep ideas fresh. With the Wayans clan back at the creative helm, there’s more emphasis on cinematic gaffes from a prankster’s perspective. THE Sinners musical number, the M3AGAN twerk dancing and Art the Clown’s cameo earn their share, but are expected given their overwhelming popularity. What stands out are the quiet zingers: a It follows a joke about artistic indie horror, for example. The five-person writing team isn’t just pleasing the horror crowd: they’ve done their homework. Frankly, I laughed more than I expected and appreciated the deeper humor presented.
That said, the Horror movie the films were always a little immature. There is an attempt to rectify old jokes that have not aged well, but also a… let’s say a commitment to tone. Dave Sheridan’s Doofy Gilmore schtick just doesn’t hit the same mark, nor do the micropenis gags or the weed-infused high that’s so prevalent. Horror movie It’s a 50/50 comedy split between quick wit and perverse failures, especially when trying to push the boundaries. The script is at its weakest when it tries to launch into topical rips about the Epstein files, #MeToo, Britney Spears, and other attempts to prove that comedy should be a safe place to make dangerous jokes, because that just seems…a tiny bit difficult.
Don’t get me wrong, comedies shouldn’t have “exclusion zones” for their material, but you know what makes people stop clutching their pearls? Actually, it’s funny. This is sometimes where Horror movie failed. The film wants so badly to provoke offbeat laughs and will fall flat on its face to do so.
What made me positive Horror movie I didn’t see it coming. There’s a fair amount of introspection from a franchise perspective, and the Wayans brothers don’t hold back on studio drama. Characters break the fourth wall early and often, including entire conversations that are good-natured questions about Horror movie 3, Horror movie 4And Horror movie 5. Marlon and Shawn specifically have every reason to express their beefs, which Hall and Faris allow on screen. Sure, it’s all playful because everyone involved is in on the joke, but there’s still an admirable confrontation of past evils that works wonderfully in the context of a reboot that unapologetically returns to the good old days.
Horror movie (2026) is truly the anti-Scream 7. The Wayans are angry for the right reasons and are channeling that frustration into a rather scorched earth reclamation of their own properties.
Horror movie is a welcome revival of a franchise that helped revive and then effectively kill the parody movement of the 2000s-2010s. It’s hardly bulletproof; sketch by sketch, your mileage will vary depending on the stupidity on screen. That said, in terms of pure entertainment value, the Wayans family proves what a mistake it was to exclude them from the game. Horror movie picture. Get ready to laugh with another silly parade of good-time horror parody, as unpretentious as it is audaciously insane and comfortably stupid.
